Changes to the bus route No. 49 from 17 April
From 17 April, the bus route No. 49 to Sarkandaugava will be extended to the newly opened stop “Daudersala” at the intersection of Tvaika and Sliežu iela. In the direction to Ķengarags, the bus route No. 49 will now run to Višķu iela. These changes will both improve the safety of the bus route No. 49 and reduce route duplication. From 17 April, the name of the stop “MAN TESS” has also been changed to “Aldaris”, so the names of the stops in the vicinity of both directions of traffic will be the same and will give a unified idea of the location of the stops.
The extension of the bus route No. 49 towards Sarkandaugava to the newly created bus stop will improve the accessibility of the bus route No. 49 to the residents of the high-rise residential buildings around the intersection of Tvaika iela and Sliežu iela.
Also the name of the stop “MAN TESS” on the bus route No. 49 in the Sarkandaugava area was changed to “Aldaris”, so that the names of the stops in the vicinity of both directions of traffic would be the same and would give a unified idea of the location of the stops.
Changes will also be made on the bus route No. 49 towards Ķengarags, organising the route to Višķu iela. This will improve the overall traffic safety and passenger safety of the bus route No. 49, as currently buses leaving from the Rumbula terminus have to cross the carriageway in both directions on Maskavas iela (4 lanes), which is a highly dangerous manoeuvre and due to the traffic volume often causes accidents, in addition to delays on the route, as several minutes are spent waiting for the opportunity to depart.
In the section from the intersection of Dzelzavas iela and Stirnu iela to Rumbula, the bus route No. 49 overlaps with the bus routes No. 15 and 31; accordingly, passengers travelling on the bus route No. 49 from Rumbula to the intersection of Dzelzavas iela and Stirnu iela will still be able to reach their desired destination without changing buses.
However, passengers on the bus route No. 49 from Sarkandaugava to the intersection of Dzelzavas iela and Stirnu iela, whose destination is Maskavas iela, after the intersection with Višķu iela, will be able to reach their destination with one transfer without additional costs, as due to changes in the range of tickets, no additional costs will be incurred for transfers.
Changes are also being made to the names of the stops of tram route No. 5, located near the intersection of Tvaika and Sliežu iela, at the terminus of the new bus route No. 49. In order to have the same name for all adjacent stops, the tram stop “Tvaika iela” on tram route No. 5 (in both directions) will be renamed “Daudersala”.
